Round 2 of the SA MX Nationals took place in Pietermaritzburg on the 8th of April. Having only 1 d-force™ rider on the start line made Pocket Rocket Raaff feel the pressure, but having her teammates there to support her put her at ease.

The track changes made it a little tough for Kayla in practice. Trying to get into the swing of things on a slippery track she hardly knew. Not managing the fastest time in qualifying, Kayla knew what she had to work on for the following heats.

Tiegan Reed was once again unable to race due to an injury she is recovering from but was there to support with teammate Kayla Williams.

Heat 1 didn’t go as planned for young Raaffy. Not getting the start she wanted she was around 5th into the first corner keeping it steady through the support riders. Unfortunately, on lap 1, a mistake was made which resulted in Kayla going otb (over the bars). Kayla got up as quick as she could, feeling very frustrated and determined to get to the front as well as fight her way through the pack. She lived up to the nickname of Pocket Rocket Raaff (given to her by teammate, Tiegan Reed), young Raaff managed to take the lead out of the ladies and set the fastest time out of 22 riders.

By the end of the day, the track had deteriorated and dried out. Heat 2 was going to be rough. Once again Kayla went down in a major collision in the start involving a few riders. Raaff feeling very tender after the fall knew she had to finish the day safely and had to settle for a second-place finish.

Kayla says “It was a good and a bad day. We all have our ups and downs. I’m just happy to still walk away with the lead.”

Onwards and upwards for the next round in Bloemfontein in May.

Thank you to our sponsors for keeping the team looking so good on and off the track.
